Аn icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was found at the Shehyni checkpoint on the border with Poland.

During a thorough inspection of a Mercedes vehicle, border guards from the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, together with customs officers, discovered an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a metal frame.

The icon was found in the car's luggage compartment among personal belongings. The owner, an antique enthusiast, was not present in the vehicle. According to the driver, the parcel containing the icon was to be delivered to the Netherlands. The driver claimed he was unaware of the icon’s presence in the car and had simply picked up the box with items from the post office.

Customs officers confiscated the find and drew up a report on the violation of customs regulations. An expert examination will determine whether the icon holds cultural or historical value.
